VBSO to raise money for Law Enforcement United this weekend
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Members of Law Enforcement United’s (LEU) “Road to Hope” and “Ruff Ride” are holding a fundraiser Saturday, March 9, at Lendy’s Café, 1581 General Booth Blvd., #101, Virginia Beach, from noon to 4 p.m., to raise money for this important organization.
LEU participants are made up of sworn officers and civilians from the Virginia Beach Police Department and the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office. A Poker Run Motorcycle Ride was planned for the morning for the event but was canceled due to forecasted inclement weather.
The cost to attend the event is $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Entry includes lunch and two drink tickets.
Law Enforcement United is a nonprofit, 100 percent voluntary organization that honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and supports their survivors. LEU has raised millions for fallen officers' survivors since its inception and supports organizations such as Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), The Officer Down Memorial Page and The Spirit of Blue Foundation. Each year, Virginia division bicyclists trek from Chesapeake, Va., to Washington, D.C., for the Road to Hope fundraiser or Cumberland, Md., to D.C., for the Ruff Ride, which recognizes Law Enforcement K-9 partners that have died in the line of duty. The rides, May 10-12, end with activities in our nation’s capital celebrating National Police Week May 12-18.
Media can chat with the LEU bicyclists during the event. There also will be a silent auction, which includes two autographed Norfolk Admirals hockey sticks from 2007-2008 season, a Golden Horseshoe golf club flag autographed by Jim Furyk and an autographed baseball bat and ball by Jim Morris, “The Rookie”.
